About CMC Global

Mission:
To build the profile, recognition and influence of the profession and its practitioners globally.

Vision:
To be a leader in the development of management consulting as a global profession that drives social and economic success.

The International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI) is an international membership organisation and a network of management advisory and consultancy associations and institutes worldwide, who have a common purpose and shared values and goals.

In 1987, thirty-two management consultants from ten countries met in Paris to explore the common ground between professional institutes which were known to certify individual management consultants. The meeting resulted in a joint proposal for the formation of the ICMCI to improve the certification of management consultants around the world. Institutes of Management Consulting (IMCs) of seven countries (Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States of America) formed the founding members of the Council.
In 1989 the ICMCI delegates agreed to register it as a Swiss Verein and approved the Code of Professional Conduct. The Code became the first international code of conduct of any profession. The ICMCI also approved the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) as the universal designation for certified management consultants.
Since this start, ICMCI has grown both in member Institutes, in position and in achievements. A few of the main achievements are:

  • The CMC designation developed, established and being promoted globally.
  • 48 country-based Institutes of Management Consulting + the Global Institute (to certify individuals in countries where there isn’t an IMC established) associated with CMC-Global.
  • A common body of knowledge and a competency model have been introduced to IMCs and last updated in 2021.
  • An International Code of Professional Conduct.
  • The model for Accredited Consulting Practices (ACPs) has been developed and implemented.
  • ICMCI has achieved recognition and gained the UN NGO Consultative Status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
  • A CEN-standard for management consulting has been developed and ratified.
  • Quality assurance certification is in place.
  • The International Constantinus Award is established as an incentive and recognition for high-class management consulting.
  • The Academic Fellow programme is established and gaining numbers.
  • The ISO standard for management consulting (ISO 20700:2017) has been developed announced.
  • Established a self-declaration checklist training for the ISO 20700:2017 standard.
  • Introduced an annual International CMC Conference that started in 2013.
  • Accreditation as a certification body available to member institutes

ICMCI’s core activities, focused on the promotion and improvement of the CMC value proposition, are to:

  • Achieve common objectives to improve the profession through the IMC’s.
  • Continuously elevate the standards of management consultants worldwide and increase acceptance of management consulting as a respected profession.
  • Encourage reciprocity between national institutes with recognised universal standards and adherence to an International Code of Conduct.
  • Promote the value of the CMC to international bodies who influence the selecting and use of management consultants.
The International CMC Conference is an annual event and considered the preeminent conference for Management Consultants worldwide. Through this conference, ICMCI seeks to network top consultants across countries/regions and disperse knowledge of leading consulting practices & concepts world-wide. The conference is hosted and managed by one of ICMCI’s country-based Institutes of Management Consulting (IMCs), with the support of ICMCI; and is attended by management consultants across all sub-specialties. This includes those who are new to or students who want to join the profession, as well as individual CMCs that are advanced in the profession and want to contribute to their professional development, plus leaders of CMC-Firms or Accredited Consulting Practices. The diversity of attendees is supported in the design of the event session streams during the conference, with the many presentations and breakout sessions led and facilitated by renowned thought-leaders and exemplary consulting practitioners worldwide.

ICMCI has initiated the Constantinus International Award in order to promote excellence in consulting services worldwide.

The dynamic branch of management consulting is an important sparring partner for businesses and entrepreneurs – especially, when precise expertise and efficient implementation of measures are in demand. “Naturally, the quality of the consulting sector relies heavily on the innovative strengths of the consultants themselves. This is why ICMCI initiated the Constantinus International Award in order to give a prominent stage to all the excellent accomplishments of the branch”, states the chairperson of ICMCI.

Having launched the award in 2011, ICMCI has since then actively promoted the award among all its member institutes and has awarded many companies for their projects.

The mark of the award assesses both delivery (consulting firms) and beneficiary (clients) each for their role in carrying out the project and implementing its findings. Making it the only international award in that perspective.
